Bell Ringers

Have you ever considered what bellringing is? Bell ringing is a traditional art in Ireland that involves ringing church bells to announce worship, celebrate occasions,
and honour people. It’s a team activity that uses physical and mental skills to create music.

How it’s done

Bells are rung full circle, which changes their speed and sequence
The order in which the bells sound is altered to create different sequences called
“rows” or “changes”
The bells are tuned to a diatonic scale
Ringers use a rope to control the bells

Benefits

Bell ringing can improve fitness and cardiovascular health
It can help relieve stress
It can boost confidence and self esteem
It is a fun way to meet new people

Have you heard 3 or 4 bells ringing on a Sunday morning and wondered why all
the full 6 aren’t ringing? This is because we don’t have enough St Donard’s Ringers to Ring all 6, we can only achieve this with the help of visting Ringers.

We can only achieve ringing all 6 with your help to keep the bells of St Donard’s Ringing for
years to come.

If you want to see what it is all about and become a member of St Donard’s
bell ringers, join us in the tower any Sunday morning: 10am – 10.25
or on a practice night Monday: 19.00 – 20.30.
